On November 22nd, 2019, the list of additional academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering was announced. Professor Li Shucai in the School of Qilu Transportation, Shandong University was elected as the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, department of Civil, Hydraulic and Architectural Engineering.
Professor Li experts in the disaster prevention and control of underground engineering and tunnel engineering, distinguished professor of Chang Jiang Scholars, recipient of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, chief scientist of 973 Plan Project, experts in modern transportation technology of 863 Program, and one of the Millions of Talent Projects National candidatesof Ten-thousand Talents Program, now holds the posts of vice principal of Shandong University, the dean of School of Qilu Transportation, Shandong University and director of Engineering Research Center of Large Underground Caverns of the Ministry of Education, vice chairman of Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics & Engineering, chairman of Underground Engineering Branch of Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics & Engineering, editor of the international journal "Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology".
Professor Li is mainly engaged in the prevention and control of water and mud hazards in tunnels and underground engineering.Aiming at the major challenges of Chinese underground engineering,such as difficult construction, complex geological conditions, water and mud catastrophic disasters, he focuses on the causes, prediction and prevention of adverse geological disasters and made substantial progress in advanced predicting bad geological condition in tunnels and managing major gushing water disasters. The research results have been successfully applied to more than 230 underground and tunnel projects in the railway, highway and water conservancy fields, and avoided major disasters of water and mud bursts, landslides, etc. He has made important contributions to disaster prevention and control. He won 4 second prizes for National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, 5 first prizes at provincial and ministerial levels, the highest award in science and technology in Shandong Province, and the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award.
Professor Li also attaches great importance to talent training and team building. There are 3 distinguished professors who are Chang Jiang Scholars, 2 recipients of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 4 leading talents in Ten thousand People Program for science and technology innovation, 3 winners of the National Excellent Youth Fund, and 2 Thousand Youth Talents, 1 National Youth Talent in the team. The team has been also selected into the national Huang Danian teachers team.
